Study Japanese in Japan this year – Our programs combine Internship, cultural tours/events, and Study abroad all in one!
People of all ages try to learn new languages for various reasons; such as for personal pleasure, to improve their job prospects, to talk with new members of their family, or because they are moving to the country where the language is dominant. One language that is becoming popular these days is Japanese.
Learning Japanese can be done with a little effort and a lot of concentration on the part of the student. The language is easier to learn when being taught by a tutor or a full-time professor, but it can be learned on one’s own using the internet, study guides, and language instructional packets.
By far the most effective way to learn the language though, is to study Japanese in Japan. Living or working in the culture will expose you to all aspects of the language in your daily life – casual, formal, and the highest level, the “honorific” expressions.
Every day, listen to every word spoken to you intently, and take notes as much as possible. When you get back to your office, your home, or your dorm room, access the study guides or tapes you have, and compare them to what you heard during the day and the notes you took. This will enable you to cross-reference everything you learn, and drill the information into your mind as much as possible without getting too confused.
The most important thing to remember when studying Japanese in Japan is to never give up. There will be times when you want to throw your notes out the window, but resist this – the more you stay calm, the easier it is to learn the language. Being in the country should be fun! Don’t be too serious – relax, soak up the culture, and get to know the people, and before you know it you’ll be improving quickly.
Enrolling in a Japanese language school while you’re there can also be an excellent method when it comes to learning the language. You will be studying under Japanese native speaking professors, which is always more effective than learning from non-natives, or doing it yourself.
If you decide to study Japanese in Japan, make sure you decide what to do there before you go. You could study at a local language school, pick up a full time job in the city, or for an even more fun experience, try working in a Resort for a few months! Whatever you decide to do, enjoy!
